ALT for damerne empowers women
With a keen eye on what is happening in women’s everyday lives and an international outlook, our Danish women’s magasine ALT for damerne stays relevant and empowers women with nuance, heart and humour.
Covers and portrait articles featuring strong women of all ages, shapes and colours, unretouched images, accounts of menopause and conversations about vulnerability, sex and grief. That is how ALT for damerne pays tribute to women of all shades.
The magasine, which is today Denmark’s largest women’s magasine, was first published in 1946 and addressed the modern independent woman already at that time. Since then, a lot has changed for women, and ALT for damerne has followed suit:
One example is the ALT for damerne annual Sisterhood Award presented to one or more women who make a special effort to support and pave the way for other women. The first Sisterhood Award was presented in 2019 and went to data engineer Mozghan Gerayeli, who has dedicated her life to building bridges for other women in a male-dominated tech industry. Since then, former Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt, podcast and radio host Sara Bro and the actor-director duo Louise Mieritz and Ditte Hansen have received the award.
Sisterhood exists all year round at the ALT for damerne editorial office, where focus is both on local and global trends.
“I think that a good and modern women’s magasine is one that is true to its origin: that is to take an interest in women’s everyday lives, and everything that is close, while at the same time having an international outlook and relating to what is happening around us,” says Rikke Dal Støttrup.
