All children deserve a safe childhood
In Denmark, a large group of children and young people are placed in care. More than half of them do not finish primary school with all their exams. De Anbragtes Vilkår (in English The Conditions of Children in Care) works to promote a good and safe childhood for all children and young people placed in care – and for a good transition into adulthood.
Too many children and young people placed in care experience school changes, lack of support from adults and periods without schooling. They often do not have the same opportunities of parental support as other children and young people. And as a society, we often fail to ensure that young people placed in care transition well into adulthood.
These are some of the things that De Anbragtes Vilkår (DAV) is working to change. De Anbragtes Vilkår is an interest group founded by formerly placed children who work with the vision of a school life with support, expectations and community. And that placement outside the home should lift children out of a vulnerable position and empower them to realise their full potential.
An important and respected voice for children and young people
Egmont has been working with De Anbragtes Vilkår since 2018 and was the first foundation to support the organisation. Since then, De Anbragtes Vilkår has become an important player in the field, whose voice is even heard and considered in the Danish Parliament. The organisation works to improve the conditions of those in care by ensuring that their knowledge, interests and wishes are clearly applied in the development of policy and practice in the area. So that the difference between those in care and those not in care in Denmark can be equalised.
De Anbragtes Vilkår has received both the Crown Prince Couple’s Social Award and the Human Rights Award for its strong commitment.
