In the run-up to the 2024 US presidential election, Nordisk Film Distribution helped launch the film The Apprentice – a highly topical film about President Donald Trump's rise to power in the United States. According to Marketing Manager Cille Neumann, it is important for Nordisk Film Distribution to launch films that are both highly topical and can create debate, while also being entertaining and exciting. And she believes that The Apprentice is exactly that.

"There is a need for an understanding of what is happening in the world right now and how a man like him can be elected president of the United States," says Cille Neumann.

Nordisk Film Distribution has brought the film to a Danish and Nordic audience because they want to contribute to the debate with a factual input. However, it is not without careful consideration that she and her colleagues choose to launch films like this.

"Before we decided to be a distributor of The Apprentice in Denmark and the Nordic countries, we have of course thought about a film with that main character. But it is a film that contributes in a way that the film medium is one of the few media that can," says Cille Neumann.

The director, Ali Abbasi, who lives in Copenhagen, is known for making boundary-pushing and debate-provoking films. He previously directed Holy Spider, which won 11 Robert awards and a Bodil. The two actors behind the main characters in The Apprentice are both nominated for an Oscar.
