The great books in Denmark and Norway
Through the publishing houses Lindhardt og Ringhof in Denmark and Cappelen Damm in Norway, Egmont helps bringing knowledge, culture and great reading experiences to children and adults, expanding the readers’ national, Nordic and international horizons.
In Denmark, Lindhardt og Ringhof publishes several of the Danish favourite authors such as Maren Uthaug, Thomas Korsgaard, Merete Pryds Helle and Knud Romer, all of whom have received the Danish Booksellers’ Award of Honour, The Golden Laurels. The publishing house also publishes international literature with Karl Ove Knausgård, Alex Schulman, Bret Easton Ellis, Margaret Atwood, Barack Obama and Paul Auster among the heavyweights.
Denmark’s largest publisher of children’s books, Carlsen, and largest digital publisher, SAGA, are also part of Lindhardt og Ringhof, just as Denmark’s leading educational publisher Lindhardt og Ringhof Uddannelse creates books and digital solutions for the entire education sector.
A new collaboration between Lindhardt og Ringhof and the sister company Cappelen Damm in Norway is to ensure strong literary works across the Nordic region.
“Through Egmont, we are partners with the large Norwegian publishing house Cappelen Damm, which has strengthened our international collaborations. First and foremost, we have significantly expanded our Nordic portfolio,” says Sune de Souza Schmidt-Madsen, Director of Fiction, Lindhardt og Ringhof.
At Cappelen Damm, former Minister of Culture Abid Raja's autobiography "Min skyld" was Norway's best-selling non-fiction book in both 2021 and 2022 with 170,000 copies. In the autumn of 2024, he followed up with the book "“Vår ære og vår frykt - en personlig reise i det muslimske Europa”, which went straight into the bestseller lists.
Cappelen Damm was also behind one of the best-selling Norwegian books in 2023. "Haakon – historier om en tronfølger" about and by Norway's crown prince became a bestseller and received great praise from the reviewers.
Norway's largest publisher publishes around 3000 titles a year in both fiction and non-fiction, education and children's and young adult books. International bestselling authors such as Ken Follett, Lucinda Riley and Valérie Perrin are published in Norway by Cappelen Damm.
