Renewable energy for Egmont’s operations
In recent years, Egmont has invested in solar parks, first in Denmark and now also in Sweden. The two energy agreements cover almost all of Egmont’s Danish electricity consumption and half of our electricity consumption in Sweden and Norway.
In collaboration with the energy company Better Energy, Egmont joined forces with 11 Danish companies in 2021 to build a new solar park in North Jutland. The new solar power plant in Badskær has been in operation since the summer of 2023 and supplies green power to Egmont’s Danish operations. The solar park produces 70,000 MWh of electricity annually, which corresponds to the electricity consumption of around 18,000 households in Denmark. Better Energy, which owns the solar park, is also working hard to ensure the biodiversity in the area – for example, by establishing a fresh meadow, a wetland and groups of trees and shrubs to create a natural transition from the existing forest to the open countryside. In addition, a fauna passage, several amphibian nests and bird boxes have been established, all for the benefit of the area’s insects, amphibians and birds.
From the summer of 2024, we expect Egmont’s Swedish and Norwegian operations to be powered by renewable energy. A seven-year energy agreement with the energy companies Axpo and Soltech Energy Solutions, in which Egmont is the sole investor, makes the establishment of a new solar park in southern Sweden possible. The solar power plant will produce 11,000 MWh of electricity annually, equivalent to the annual electricity consumption of around 1,200 households. This means that the agreement will cover about half of Egmont’s electricity consumption in Sweden and Norway.

“When we set our goal of 100% green power from 2022, we also wanted to work towards a renewable electricity supply that can make a difference to the energy sector and in that way use our size as a group to realise it. We are proud to be a leader in the media industry when it comes to this type of investment in renewable energy, which is also an important step in reducing Egmont’s overall carbon footprint and part of our ‘Go Greener journey’,” says Raphaëlle Stewart, Sustainability Manager at Egmont.
