Egmont opens Vognmagergade Parking House centrally in Copenhagen

Vognmagergade Parking House, Egmont's parking garage in central Copenhagen with space for 410 cars, is now being opened for public parking, including resident parking in collaboration with the City of Copenhagen.

There’s good news for residents, visitors, and business people who experience the need to spend unnecessary time looking for parking centrally in Copenhagen. On November 1st, Vognmagergade Parking House will open beneath Egmont's iconic building on Vognmagergade.

During 2023, 600 of the approximately 1,050 street parking spaces in the Medieval City, the oldest part of Copenhagen's city center, will be removed, creating challenges for short-term, business, and resident parking. Egmont wants to open Vognmagergade Parking House to contribute more publicly available parking options away from street level. The parking garage has a total area of 12,000 square meters across three levels and space for 410 cars. The City of Copenhagen will rent up to 100 parking spaces, which will be offered to residents.

"We are pleased that we can help the municipality get cars off the street, creating more space for urban areas in the Medieval City, while still providing the opportunity to park your car. Vognmagergade Parking House is centrally located and easily accessible next to Egmont’s characteristic clock and footbridge, which is a landmark for Vognmagergade. We have entered an agreement with APCOA PARKING, who are a professional and experienced partner that we are convinced can create a safe and securely operated parking house," says Egmont's property manager Jens Christian Berner.

"We are removing street parking spaces to make the Medieval City more peaceful, to give more space to pedestrians and cyclists in urban areas, and to create a city that is more pleasant to live in and visit. But of course, it is important that residents who cannot do without a car have somewhere to park within a reasonable walking distance. This is partly what Vognmagergade Parking House makes possible, and I am therefore pleased that Egmont has agreed for the municipality to rent some spaces in their parking house," says Line Barfod, Deputy Mayor for Technical and Environmental Affairs in Copenhagen.

Vognmagergade Parking House will offer both short-term and long-term parking, parking subscriptions, and also resident permit parking. At the opening, there will be 28 charging stations set up for electric and hybrid vehicles, with an ambition to increase the number in the coming years. Furthermore, there are plans to expand the parking house with a range of services, such as car detailing, bicycle services, and a hub for shared cars. The operation is managed by APCOA PARKING, which operates more than 2,500 parking areas in Denmark and manages over 1.5 million parking spaces in 13 European countries.

"We take it as a great recognition that Egmont has chosen APCOA PARKING as the operator for Vognmagergade Parking House. With its central location, large capacity, and flexible parking options, it will be a valuable addition to the Medieval City in Copenhagen," says Michael Christensen, CEO of APCOA PARKING Denmark.
