The Egmont Report 2023: Count on us
Children and young people with maths difficulties have significantly lower chances of getting an education or job. This is shown by the Egmont Report 2023, which this year focuses on the children and young people who have such difficulty with mathematics that it impairs their life chances.
Over many years, Egmont has made a great effort to support children and young people with dyslexia and reading difficulties. But as important as it is for children to learn how to read and write, it is just as important to know and understand the basic maths skills.
Nevertheless, difficulties in math affect one out of seven students in primary school and cause challenges:
Strong difficulties in maths can affect children's educational and job opportunities.
Difficulties in maths can affect children's well-being.
Difficulties in maths can follow children and young people into adulthood.
In the report, Bertram, Agnes and Jonathan share personal stories about being in maths difficulties. A youth panel shares 10 good tips on how schools, teachers and parents can help. You can read about how two municipalities have made targeted efforts to support children and young people with maths difficulties, just as the report gives an insight into how parents can be supported in supporting their children.
