Filmbranche i samlet opråb om bedre konkurrencevilkårFilm industry united in call for production incentives in Denmark
Introducing a production incentive scheme in Denmark is "a no brainer", according to a hearing at Christiansborg today, organised by Egmont and Nordisk Film, among others.
The benefits of a so-called production rebate on foreign film and series production in Denmark are undeniable - both for the film industry and the rest of society. More jobs, valuable branding and tourism, more talent development and, not least, more good films and series with a Danish flavour are just some of them.
Denmark is the only film country in Europe without an incentive scheme - a discount when foreign film and series productions choose to produce in Denmark. This creates a difficult competitive situation for the entire Danish film industry, which is under significant pressure in recent years. The good thing about such a scheme is that it is a reimbursement scheme. The rebate is only paid out once the foreign financing has been accounted for, and experience from other countries shows that the money is returned 3-4 times over.
Fortunately, there is also broad political support for a Danish incentive scheme. This is clear after today's hearing at The Danish Parliament, which Egmont and Nordisk Film - together with a broad alliance of film industry players - organised. The 150 participants from the film industry heard positive commitments from politicians Helle Bonnesen (K), Charlotte Broman Mølbak (SF), Jan E. Jørgensen (V) and Peter Skaarup (DD) after presenting cases, experiences and a new white paper on the consequences of missing production discounts. Thank you for the political responsiveness to everyone.
The question now seems not to be "why?", but rather "when?". Our answer is clear: as soon as possible!
